Alone on a Bangkok rooftop
Saying goodbye to everything at once, and still showing up.
Last year, on my last week before moving back to the UK, I found myself alone on a random rooftop in Bangkok looking out over the city.
Reflecting on life. Thinking, what on earth happens next? Over the past couple of years I’d been surrounded by hundreds of people. New friends, new places, new everything. And then all of a sudden you’re on your own, having to say goodbye to everything at once. That feeling is hard to describe.
A few months later I returned to Bangkok wearing my Villa top. Soon after, Villa went and won the Europa League in Istanbul and brought the trophy to Bangkok on their preseason tour.
I wish they were playing Buriram United, imagine that! Then we lost most of our star players at once.
Players you’d supported for years. Gone. That’s exactly how I felt a year ago.
Saying goodbye to everything at once. But here we are. Still standing. Still showing up.
